We believe good data belongs to everyone

We’ve seen firsthand what happens when nonprofits have the tools to measure their work, when students get to apply what they’re learning, and when partners share what they know. It builds trust. It sparks new ideas. And it makes our communities stronger.

That’s why we work to make research and data tools more accessible for nonprofits, students, and local organizations. When people understand their data, they understand their impact.

The DataWise Foundation bridges academic knowledge with community needs through practical, collaborative data projects.

We partner with nonprofits, educators, and funders to make data work for community good—offering applied research, evaluation, and data systems support that strengthens organizations across West Michigan.

Connecting data, learning, and community action

Core Focus

Community Data Trust (CDT)

Convened by the DataWise Foundation and regional partners, the Community Data Trust builds the shared infrastructure that helps West Michigan’s organizations work better together.

Through common standards, secure data-sharing agreements, and collaborative governance, the CDT makes it easier for nonprofits, government, and funders to use data for collective impact.

Applied Research & Evaluation Collaborative

The Applied Research & Internship Collaborative pairs DataWise Foundation interns with mission-driven organizations to deliver practical, people-centered research and evaluation support.

Students work on real projects—collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data—while receiving close mentorship from DataWise Foundation staff. Community partners gain accessible, reliable evaluation services that strengthen strategy, illuminate outcomes, and build long-term learning capacity.
