SHARING DATA for good.

The Community Data Trust (CDT) helps West Michigan’s organizations work together through shared data systems and clear agreements.

Convened by the DataWise Foundation and regional partners, the Trust builds the connections, tools, and standards that make it easier to see what’s working—and what still needs attention—across our community.

What it is:

The Community Data Trust (CDT) is a partnership of local nonprofits, public agencies, funders, and educators.

Together, we’re creating a secure, collaborative way to share and use data that supports everyone’s mission.

Instead of working in silos, the CDT helps organizations compare information, learn from one another, and coordinate efforts to meet community needs.

Why it matters:

Community challenges rarely fit inside one organization’s database. When data stays fragmented, it’s harder to understand what’s really happening or to show collective progress.

The CDT provides a trusted space for sharing insights responsibly, so decisions about funding, programs, and policy can be grounded in a fuller picture of our region.

How it works:

Shared Standards

Partners agree on common ways to collect and describe data so systems can “talk” to each other.

Secure Infrastructure

Legal and technical frameworks protect privacy while enabling collaboration.

Member Governance

Decisions are guided by a diverse advisory group representing nonprofits, government, and community voices.

Ongoing Learning

Members meet regularly for peer learning, training, and continuous improvement.
